Creativity in Action: Empowering the Next Generation of Malawian Changemakers

At Za Creative Consult, we believe that art and storytelling are among the most powerful catalysts for social transformation. On May 15, 2026, we had the privilege of witnessing this firsthand at the Youth Creators National Pitch Challenge, held at the Sunbird Capital Hotel in Lilongwe.

Following a special invitation from our partners at GenHub Malawi—who continue to do incredible work tackling Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV)—our team joined key ministries, youth clubs, and international stakeholders for an inspiring day of creative advocacy.

A Movement Amplified by Art

Organized by UNFPA in collaboration with InspireLearn under the five-year EmpowerED Project, the challenge served as a vibrant national platform. Young creators from Mchinji, Nkhatabay, and Chikwawa stepped up to the microphone and the stage, using poetry, drama, music, and storytelling to tackle sensitive and critical issues. By translating complex topics like Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention into relatable formats, these young leaders successfully broke cultural barriers and sparked vital community dialogue.

Key Takeaways for Social Change

As an organization grounded in participatory, evidence-based solutions, this event reinforced several core truths that drive our own consulting philosophy:

Creative Advocacy Works: Art eliminates the awkwardness around taboo topics, making critical information accessible and impactful.

Youth Leadership is the Future: When young people lead advocacy, they bring a fresh, sustainable energy that resonates with their peers. Multi-Sectoral Collaboration Matters: Bringing together government ministries, NGOs, and creative agencies creates a robust support system for community development.

Looking Forward

The Youth Creators Pitch Challenge was far more than a competition; it was a testament to what happens when we give young people the space to lead.

Za Creative Consult is incredibly proud to stand alongside GenHub Malawi, UNFPA, and the government ministries in shaping a brighter, safer, and more inclusive future for Malawi. We remain committed to designing creative communication strategies that empower communities and turn inspire-driven ideas into sustainable social impact.
